Something is lurking in the shadows of the room. It's waiting for the right
moment to escape. I'm floating near the ceiling, also waiting. Neither of us know
who's going to make the first move. The tension is becoming unbearable!

Suddenly, it darts out of the corner for the door. But it's no match for my
speed. I grab onto one of its tentacles and pull it into a tight hug.

"Haha! Funny octopus!" I manage squeal in a fit of giggles.

The octopus keeps trying to escape, but I have a firm grasp. Its skin is
flashing different patters and colors to try to make itself look threatening.

"Hey! I do that too!"I yell.
Soon, my body is covered in blue, green, and red glowing patterns. This scares
the octopus even more!

It tries to escape time and time again, but I keep pulling it back into a hug
and giggle.

"You're so squishy! I think I'll name you...Squishy! From now on you will always
be my Squishy." I say with satisfaction.

Mama is behind me making our breakfast. Fish and kelp and ocean kumquats! Yum!

Mama's friend Jen is here, too. She has long, dark brown hair and red tail and
wears a white cloth.

Not like Mama.

Mama has golden brown hair and a dark purple tail, and wears a red cloth like
me.

Mama and Jen and I all have tan skin. Mama told me that we are related to the
Watertribe, and that's why we are tan.

While I'm chasing around the octopus, Mama and Jen are talking.

"There's going to be a meeting in the center of town today at sunset. I heard
there's some very important news from the High Council at the Capital." Jen
explains.
Mama looks sad.

"They aren't going to make us relocate, are they? We live near the Fire Nation,
but we're not in a battle zone!" Mama says.

"They probably think we will be at some point. This war has been going on for
fifteen years, and it doesn't seem like it's going to end soon. Fifteen years is
not that long for us of course, but for humans it is." Jen says.

"We're the only city left in the Fire Nation. Our trading post is very important
to the Capitol. It would be very unwise to relocate us." Mama says. "Plus I'll
be out of business! The shells I collect only come from here. Also, I'm worried
about Jovie. She loves it here so much..." Mama sounds like she's going to cry.

I flap my blue tail and swim over to her, dragging Squishy behind me. I give her
a hug and say, "It's okay Mama. I'll always be with you!"

She gives me a warm smile, but as I swim away I see she still looks sad.

"Don't worry. I'm sure they won't move us too soon. At least enjoy the time we
still have here." Jen says, which makes Mama feel better.

Squishy tries to escape once again, pulling harder than ever.

"No Squishy! Stay here!" I yell. I wave my other arm at him in frustration and he
freezes into a block of ice! Only the tentacle I'm holding onto isn't frozen.
The ice floats to the ceiling, dragging me with it! It's actually lots of fun!

"Jovie, I believe that poor octopus has suffered enough. Time to let him go."
Mama says with a little laugh, cheering up. Jen is laughing too.

"His name is Squishy, not Octopus!" I say firmly.
"Hm. Okay it's time to let
"Squishy" go." Mama says.

"Awwwww! But he's so much fun!" I say making a pouty face.

"I bet he is, but how would you feel if you were frozen in a chunk of ice?" Mama
asks.

I hadn't thought about that.
"I guess I'd be pretty cold." I say quietly. "Okay Squishy, time to go."

Mama swims up and unfreezes him. Squishy then jets out the window as fast as he
can.

"Bye bye." I say sadly as he leaves.

"It's okay, Jo. You'll get to play more later. It's time to eat now." Mama says.

Jen gets up from the table and heads for the window.
"I'll see you guys later!" She says as she zips out of the house.

"Bye!" Mama and I say together.

We finish eating and Mama begins to clean up.

"Mama, is today a Shell Day?" I ask.

"Yes it is." She replies. "We'll be leaving as soon as I'm finished cleaning up.
Why don't you grab the bags from the chest for me?"

I go over to the chest on the other side of the room and grab one big bag and
one little bag. These are special ones. You know why?

Because they're magic! They're bigger on the inside and can fit lots and lots of
things in them!

"Come on, Jo. It's time to get going." Mama says with a smile as she grabs my
hand. We leave our house and head off to the reef.

The sun is shining and the water is sparkling. It's so pretty! This is going to
be a fun day!
It's finally here! More of my fan fiction!:happybounce:

Sorry if it sound like a little kid wrote it but that's the point! Jovie is only 5 years old and looks like a six month old because she ages like merpeople. I will be expanding her vocabulary as she grows!
